So goes the credo of the neighborhood in which my story, Eye of a Fly, is set — a novel about coming of age in New York City’s Lower East Side. It is primarily the story of Ernest Wentworth, a brilliant but flawed boy, struggling to cope with his parents’ alcoholism and his own agonizing adolescence.
